The tool analyzes the document and recommends safe compression first. Strong compression is available only when you explicitly choose it.

Two compression methods

Choose Safe when preservation matters

Safe compression keeps the PDF structure and cleans up its storage. Strong compression rebuilds pages as images, which can work well for scans but removes interactive document features.

Before you start

  • Safe compression may have little effect or make an already optimized PDF slightly larger.
  • Strong compression does not preserve searchable text, links, bookmarks, annotations, forms, layers, or attachments.
  • Encrypted and digitally signed PDFs are blocked. Open important results and verify them yourself.

Compress PDF FAQ

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Analysis and compression run in a separate browser Worker. The file name and content are not sent to analytics.

How do Safe and Strong differ?

Safe retains the PDF structure. Strong rasterizes every page, which may reduce size further but removes search, links, and other document features.

Will the result exactly match my target?

Not always. Strong compression tries several quality and resolution settings and returns the closest small result it can produce.
